Alleged Stalker Questioned: 'Yet Suppose I Might Be Madeleine?'
A woman accused with harassing Kate McCann apparently left her a voicemail message which asked: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has persistently declared she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial accused with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, the court learned call records and data retrieved from phones logged Ms Wandelt persistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a biological test throughout that period.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - when she was three years old during a trip in Portugal - is one of the most covered child disappearance cases and remains unsolved.
'I Don't Want Money'
One voicemail, presented in court, documented Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm fat and plain like Madeleine was, but I know what I know."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's recording said: "What if there is a slight possibility that I am Madeleine? What happens next? Wouldn't that be significant for you?"
"I do not need money, I possess a living here in Poland, I just want to understand," the message continued.
The jury was informed that via electronic messages, SMS messages and communications, Ms Wandelt demanded a biological test, transmitted early photographs to her phone in a bid to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and claimed to have "flashbacks" from a youth with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, a data specialist with Leicestershire Police who gathered the information, informed the court there "seemed to lack any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally reached out to acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the phone records.
On that date, Gerry McCann responded to a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "the wrong phone."
During that incident Ms Wandelt recorded a message on Mrs McCann's answerphone declaring "I will continue and I plan to establish my position."
The court learned Mrs Spragg established a association through digital means with Ms Wandelt preceding assisting her on a visit to the McCanns' residence in the county in last December.
Phone records demonstrated Mrs Spragg had reached out via messaging service to Mrs McCann to state the press had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she ought to be considered genuine in the months leading up to the trip to that location, Leicestershire, in last December.
The court learned message exchanges between the two individuals, in that autumn, discussing endeavoring to get Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from cutlery at a eating establishment.
