‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Writing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, explained he just recently felt ready to share openly about his deep grief.
"Sufficient time has passed that I can now articulate my loss into words," wrote Elwes, saying that his first meeting with Reiner left him smitten. "As we began spending more time together I understood this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor uploaded archival material from the production, commenting that he doesn't recollect "a single day without laughter".
"The movie is about affection, allegiance and giving. Things that Rob held dear. That is part of the many reasons he was the best person to helm it," Elwes wrote.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, saying: "Asserting that they were a great team would be an oversimplification. My heart still pangs every time I remember you." He finished with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Friend and Collaborator
In a different piece, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the main character.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked seamlessly with his co-stars, and he comprehended the emotional dilemma of his character," Scorsese noted.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Sealed
In a new development, a Los Angeles judge ruled to prevent the publication of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, at the request from the LAPD.
A legal directive put a restriction on the cases to limit the public release of "related notes, evidence and photographs" pertaining to the probe.
The relevant authority had previously confirmed their deaths were the consequence of murder, with a public database noting the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
