Iran Claims Assault on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, During Regional Military Operations.
Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Bahrain, as the country executed operations across the region in response for a significant and continuing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - stated they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their airspace.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on locations linked to the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.
Additional Developments
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a several projectiles," it added.
Officials reported missile fragments landed in a residential area in the capital, causing some structural damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
