Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.
The team did not mention Rice by name in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Posted on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
