The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
