The families of young people lost after a tragic inferno at a bar in a Switzerland's winter destination are confronting an excruciating period of uncertainty for confirmed information and appealing for clues about their loved ones via social media.

The fire devastated the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the middle of the night of January 1st. Circulated footage depict the ceiling igniting as bottles with fireworks are raised in celebration.

Officials have indicated that it could take considerable time to formally name the victims of the disaster, which claimed the lives of 40 people and injured another 119. Authorities stated on the latest update that the majority of the those hurt have been accounted for, with efforts still underway to identify the final individuals.

In the meantime, families and friends have been using social media to appeal for any news about their loved ones who were at the bar that night.

Heartbreaking Pleas for the Unaccounted For

The fate of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are still unconfirmed, according to an public plea from his parent.

The resident of Lutry near the city, explained to a publication that she had returned to Lausanne to check whether he was in the hospital, while his father did the equivalent search in Bern, but did not locate him.

"This is a living nightmare, a nightmare. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in intensive care. It's terrible," she told the paper.

She added that some of his peers had been discovered with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they went through an absolute nightmare."

The Italian government has said that a number of of its nationals remain missing.
